Halloween Happenings Draw Near
/Update: The deadline to enter the Lip Sync Battle has been extended to noon, Friday, Oct. 27.
Beware! The witching hour is upon us. The County is hosting a spooktacular array of Halloween-themed activities through Oct. 31. Employees are invited to participate in all the frighteningly fun festivities. Get your costumes ready – it’s going to be a ghoulishly good time!
Halloween Festival
This Oct. 31, the plaza at the County Operations Center (COC) will be transformed into “Halloweentown” with ghoulish games, creative crafts, a lip sync battle, creepy crawlies, a photo booth, candy and more tricks and treats from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
See what all the hocus pocus is about. Join us for the festival! All costumed and non-costumed employees are welcome.
If you can’t make it in person, be there in spirit—watch the event live on InSite. The livestream will start at approximately noon.
Lip Sync Battle
Back from the dead is the County’s Lip Sync Battle competition. A live showdown will take place during the Halloween Festival at the COC on Oct. 31.
Individuals or groups interested in competing should email communications@sdcounty.ca.gov or text 619-481-4309 by 2 p.m., Oct. 17. The entry should include the following:
Name and department of all participants
Song you plan to perform, if selected as finalist. Remember that costumes, song choices and choreography must be appropriate for work.
A 30-second audition video. CAO Project Manager Royce Abalos shared an example for inspiration.
From the submissions, five finalists will be selected to impress the audience with their lip sync skills, style and performance.
The competition will start at noon. Come out to cheer on your favorite contender or watch live on InSite. Winners will be selected by the COC audience.
Pumpkin Carving Contest
Carve some time out to enter this awesome autumn contest. The County will host a Pumpkin Carving Contest for employees. To enter, email one photo of your carved pumpkin by noon on Oct. 27. Pumpkins of all shapes and sizes are welcome, as long as they are real pumpkins.
The top five finalists will be named on Oct. 30 and employees will be able to select the winner via an InSite poll through 5 p.m. on Oct. 31.
Costume Contest and Virtual Costume Party
More Halloween fun can be had by sharing your 2023 spooky, kooky or cute costume creations. Just email a photo of yourself in costume to communications@sdcounty.ca.gov to join the virtual costume party. Photos will be added to a gallery on InSite. Be sure to include your name, department and who or what you are masquerading as.
All submitted photos will be entered into the costume contest. The deadline to submit a photo for consideration in the costume contest is 4:30 p.m., on Oct. 31.
The Halloween committee will select up to 10 finalists. And on Nov. 1, employees will be able to select the winner via InSite poll through 5 p.m. The top vote-getter will be crowned on Nov. 2.
Treat Yourself to Tacos
Halloween is on a Tuesday this year. Make it a taco Tuesday!
The County Employees’ Charitable Organization is hosting a Rubio’s lunch fundraiser. This is your opportunity to have lunch available for pick up at the COC Commons and support CECO. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the nonprofit.
Order lunch here. Be sure to follow instructions on the order form to pay ahead of time. The deadline to submit your pre-order is Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. Orders will be available for pickup from noon to 1 p.m. on Oct. 31 – at the Halloweentown Festival at the County Operations Center.
