Set to Amaze

Some came in tutus and sequined headbands. One team donned matching t-shirts and Wonder Woman socks.
With a few toots of an air horn, dozens of spirited teams of County employees took off Thursday in the County’s first ever Amazing Race competition at the County Operations Center. The exercise treasure hunt had teams zipping around the campus in search of clues.
In all, nearly 40 teams took part in the race Thursday. Another nearly 40 teams will compete Tuesday. The overall winning team will be announced May 8. Each team had four members.
The event is part of the County’s Employee Wellness program and was the first of its kind put on by the County, said Jan Mazone, Deputy Director of the Department of Human Resources.
Anyone walking across the COC grounds during the event Thursday heard clapping, cheering and even saw employees holding hand-made signs rooting on their coworkers in the race.
“This accomplishes more than just athletics,” Mazone said. “It builds camaraderie.”
Participants also had fun coming up with their team names. The DGS Divas Go Strong, Risk Racer Chicks, Auditaholics and Too Poor for Plastic Surgery were among the creative names they called themselves.
The team that finishes first will win Kindles and sports watches, while the second and third place finishers will get backpacks and sports watches. The fourth and fifth place teams will win gym bags and sports watches. And all participants will get t-shirts, water bottles, flash lights and calorie jump ropes.
