Lip Sync Battle Contestants Announced

Our Halloween festivities’ Lip Sync Battle is back bigger and better than ever! The largest group of contestants yet will battle it out for County employee stardom this year. All of their practice singing into a brush will pay off with epic performances including crazy costumes, daring dance moves and even some surprises.

This year’s contestants are:

  • Cynthia Gould, Air Pollution Control District

  • LaTanya L. Ramos, Child Welfare Services

  • Christian Arellano, Josue De Los Diaz, Kristina Hernandez, Anna Navarrete, Jan Rivera, Eligibility Operations

A winner will be determined based on applause—so don’t miss cheering them on!

The Lip Sync Battle is part of the spooktacular Monster Ball party planned for Oct. 31 at the County Operations Center. Tricks and treats include eerie entertainment, ghoulish games, a frightful photo booth and a pumpkin carving and decorating contest (enter here). Mark your calendar now!

Plus, there will be a County-wide Halloween costume contest. Attendance not required. Employees can simply enter by submitting photos via email. Check back on the big day for further details.

Read our lips: you should participate in this year’s Lip Sync Battle! The annual showdown is looking for creative contestants to compete in the contest next month. Both solo acts and groups are invited to enter.

Lip Sync Battle contenders will take center stage at the Halloween festival at the County Operations Center on Oct. 31.

The Rules

In the first round, each entrant will perform one song. The top two challengers with the loudest crowd applause will advance to the second and final round. Contestants will be judged on their lip sync skills, creativity and stage presence.

How to Enter

To enter, send an email with the following: the names, titles and departments of everyone on your team, and the titles of two songs you’d perform. Contestants will be selected on a first come, first served basis. Finalists will be announced on InSite on Monday, Oct. 23.

Don’t Miss the Big Bash

The Lip Sync Battle is just one of the Halloween happenings planned for Oct. 31. The County’s annual festival at the County Operations Center will be back this year with a “Monster Ball” prom theme. In addition, the ever popular costume contest will be open to all County employees—so get your costume in order! Keep your eyes peeled to InSite for all the frighteningly fun details leading up the witching hour on Halloween. 

Lip Sync Battle Is Back

Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps has done it, actress Anna Kendrick and TV host Michael Strahan too. Now is your chance to take center stage and enter the County’s Lip Sync Battle at this year’s Halloween celebration. Both solo acts and groups are invited to participate.

The battle for employees is similar to the popular Spike TV show of the same name. In the first round, each entrant will perform one song. The top two contenders with the loudest crowd applause will advance to the second and final round where they will act out a second song to clinch the championship.

Contestants will be selected on a first come, first serve basis. To enter, send an email with the following: the names, titles and department of everyone on your team, and the titles of two songs you’d perform.  Finalists will be announced on InSite on Monday, Oct. 24.

Lip Sync Battle contenders will grab the mic during a carnival-themed Halloween festival at the County Operations Center on Oct. 31. Dubbed “Carn-evil,” the fair with a wicked twist will feature activities including a frightening fun house, ghoulish games and photo booth.

Carnevil and Lip Sync Battle are just two of the Halloween hijinks planned. Show off your spooky and kooky workplace decorations by emailing a photo to communications@sdcounty.ca.gov, and it may be featured on InSite. And the grand finale - the County’s annual Halloween costume contest. Start crafting or shopping for a creepy, creative or extraordinary outfit, and keep your eyes peeled to InSite for details on how to submit a photo and enter the contest in the week leading up to Halloween.

Several County Employees have gotten in sync for a creepily cool contest. Eight teams were selected to compete in a Lip Sync-Off at the Hollyweird Halloween party at the County Operations Center on Oct. 30.

The teams set to have a howling good time vying for the Best Performance “Oscare” are:

  • Human Resources: Aaron Morgan, Miezelle Espinoza, Emily Fick

  • Finance & General Government Group: Tracy Sandoval, Ebony Shelton, Joan Pan, Michelle Crichlow, Rachel Witt

  • General Services: Angie Solom, Kimberly Martindale-Leal, Maria Smith, Khris Gimeno

  • County of San Diego Filipino‐American Employees Association: Ardee Apostol, Mavette Sadile, Vanessa Cabiling, Rizza Rodriguez

  • Registrar of Voters: Pamela Jordan, Laura Kelly, George Blessing, Shannon Bowman, Mireya Lara, Vicki Starke, Gabriela Gladswell, Monica Garcia

  • Purchasing & Contracting: Shelly Castle, Vianney Aldana, Lucie Dela Cruz

The tournament will start at 12:15 p.m. near the Commons. Come out to cheer on your favorite group. Winners will be selected by audience applause.

Mouth Off in Lip Sync Contest

Get ready for an epic lip sync-off! A contest similar to Jimmy Fallon’s wildly popular segment on “The Tonight Show” is coming to the County and now’s the time to enter as a contestant. The sensational showdown will take place at the County’s Hollyweird festivities later this month.

Individuals and groups interested in vying for the Best Performance “Oscare” in the Lip Sync-Off can email jessie.bishop@sdcounty.ca.gov by 4 p.m., Oct. 22. The email should include your name and the song you plan to perform.  Short “audition” videos like CAO Staff Officer Royce Abalos’ rendition of “Old Time Rock n Roll” are encouraged. Costume and song choices for the day of the event must be appropriate for work.

From the submissions, 10 nominees will be selected to wow us their lip sync skills, style and performance.

The tournament will start at 12:15 p.m., Oct. 30 at the COC. Come out to cheer on your favorite contender. Winners will be selected by the audience. Look for the stage on the Commons lawn.
